Water Filtration Knowledge

Questions We Hear Most

Real answers to the questions Mississippi homeowners ask us every day.

How do I know if I need a water filtration system?
Common signs include cloudy or discolored water, chlorine smell, metallic taste, soap scum buildup, dry skin or hair after showering, and rust stains on fixtures. Even if your water looks clear, it may contain dissolved chemicals, hardness minerals, or other contaminants. We offer free water testing to assess exactly what's in your water and recommend the right solution.
Is Mississippi water safe to drink without a filter?
Municipal water in Mississippi meets EPA standards, but "legal" doesn't always mean "ideal." Chlorine byproducts, aging pipe infrastructure, and local water main issues can affect taste, odor, and quality. If you're on well water — common in rural areas of Hinds, Holmes, Attala, and Leake counties — you're responsible for your own water safety. A filtration system gives you peace of mind and better-tasting water regardless of your source.
What's the difference between whole-home and under-sink filtration?
A whole-home (point-of-entry) system filters water where it enters your house, treating every tap — showers, sinks, laundry, and outdoor hoses. An under-sink system (point-of-use), like Reverse Osmosis, treats water at a single tap, typically the kitchen sink, for drinking and cooking. Many customers benefit from both: whole-home for general water quality and R.O. for ultra-pure drinking water.
What contaminants does a whole-home system remove?
Our whole-home systems are configured to address Mississippi water conditions and can remove or reduce: chlorine and chloramines, iron and manganese, sediment and particulates, hydrogen sulfide (sulfur smell), hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium), VOCs (volatile organic compounds), herbicides and pesticides, and industrial chemicals. The exact configuration depends on your water test results.
How long does installation take?
Most whole-home installations are completed in a single day (4-8 hours depending on complexity). Under-sink R.O. systems typically take 1-2 hours. We'll give you a precise time estimate after your free consultation and water test. Installation includes setup, testing, and a walkthrough of your new system.
Will a whole-home system affect my water pressure?
A properly sized and installed system should have minimal impact on water pressure — typically less than 5 psi drop. If you have low water pressure to begin with, we can address that during installation. We size every system to your home's flow rate and peak demand to ensure performance is never compromised.
How does Reverse Osmosis work?
Reverse Osmosis forces water through a semi-permeable membrane with pores so small that they block contaminants at the molecular level — including lead, fluoride, arsenic, nitrates, dissolved solids, and even many bacteria and viruses. Our 4-stage R.O. systems combine sediment filtration, carbon filtration, the R.O. membrane, and a polishing filter for the cleanest possible drinking water.
Does Reverse Osmosis waste water?
R.O. systems do produce some reject water (the water that carries away the filtered contaminants). Modern systems have improved efficiency, typically producing 1 gallon of clean water for every 2-4 gallons of reject water. The reject water can be used for plants or other non-potable purposes. For most households, the amount is negligible compared to other household water use.
How often do filters need to be replaced?
Replacement schedules depend on your water quality and usage. General guidelines: Sediment pre-filters every 3-6 months, carbon filters every 6-12 months, R.O. membranes every 2-3 years, and main filtration media every 3-5 years. We offer maintenance plans with scheduled service visits and auto-ship replacement filters so you never forget.
Can I replace the filters myself?
Yes! Many of our filter replacements are designed for easy DIY replacement — just twist and lock. We provide clear instructions and are always a phone call away if you need help. For media replacements or more complex maintenance, we recommend scheduling a service visit to ensure everything is done correctly.
How much does a whole-home water filtration system cost?
Pricing depends on your water quality, home size, and the specific system configuration needed. After your free water test, we provide a detailed quote with no hidden fees. We offer flexible financing options to make clean water affordable for every budget. Contact us for a personalized estimate.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. All our systems come with a comprehensive manufacturer warranty, and our installations are backed by our own workmanship guarantee. We stand behind every system we install. Specific warranty terms vary by product — we'll review all warranty details with you before installation.
What areas do you serve?
We proudly serve six counties in central Mississippi: Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Holmes, Attala, and Leake. This includes Jackson, Brandon, Madison, Canton, Kosciusko, Carthage, Lexington, and surrounding communities. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call.
Do you offer free water testing?
Yes! We offer free basic water testing to all homeowners in our service area. We'll test for common contaminants including chlorine, hardness, iron, pH, and total dissolved solids. For more comprehensive laboratory testing (lead, bacteria, chemicals), we can arrange that as well. Schedule your free test through our contact page.
Can you treat well water?
Absolutely. Well water is common in rural Mississippi and presents unique challenges — iron, manganese, sulfur, hardness, and potential bacterial contamination. We have extensive experience designing well water treatment systems and can configure a solution tailored to your specific water quality issues.
What happens if I move? Can I take my system with me?
Under-sink R.O. systems can be removed and relocated to a new home. Whole-home systems are typically permanently installed and often stay with the house — they can actually increase your home's value. If you're moving within our service area, we can help with removal and reinstallation, or set up your new home with a fresh system.
